Monopolies are fragile

77% of mobile phones sold by Orange in France during Christmas, was an iPhone.

Ok, it is just a statistic on a single operator, and only France, but this number shows that no dominant position, no monopoly is definitive:

  • If we look back 4 or 5 years ago, the major players were Nokia and Ericsson, which left only crumbs to the competition. Today we’re talking about HTC, Samsung, LG, BlackBerry, … Apple and sometimes about Nokia, and Ericsson.
  • From operating system point of view, we were talking about the scarecrow Windows Mobile, Symbian, and less often about PalmOS and Linux. Today, PalmOS is dead, Symbian is dying slowly, and who speak about Windows Mobile compared to the system of Apple, and Android …
